When the next election hits, Stephen Harper is in a position to push more conservative policies for financial reform.

The global economic slump continues to confound world leaders, and many are turning to Canada as a model for financial reform. Given the Tories' branding as a party that stresses solid economic governance, an upcoming election could play to their favour -- especially if a shaky economy becomes the deciding factor for Canadian voters.

Monte Solberg, former Conservative Party MP and cabinet minister, spoke with The Mark about his ideas for Conservative Party strategy, including more conservative approaches to governance. He also speaks about the upcoming departure of Jay Hill, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and MP for Prince George-Peace River, and why Hill's announcement isn't a declaration of a fall election.
