Six Ways to Quit Your Job

Friday, Aug. 13 has been declared "Steven Slater Day" in honour of the flight-attendant-turned-folk-hero. Here are some dramatic ways you too could pull a Slater.
First, Jet Blue flight attendant Steve Slater spectacularly quit his job by swearing into the intercom, grabbing a beer, and sliding down the plane's exit chute. Then a girl named Jenny left her company via a series of whiteboard messages outing her Farmville-loving boss (this turned out to be a hoax, but it was awesome so we're going to let it slide). Now the internet just won't quit with the quitting stories. The Mark brings you some of our favourites, real and fictional.
Quit à la Office Space
In a classic scene, Jennifer Aniston's character Joanna shows us how to quit with flair. Looks like somebody's got a case of the Mondays.
Quit via Cake
Last year, a W. Neil Berrett wrote his resignation letter in blue icing on a giant sheet cake. It read:
"Dear Mr. Bowers, During the past three years, my tenure at the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard has been nothing short of pure excitement, joy and whim. However, I have decided to spend more time with my family and attend to health issues that have recently arisen. I am proud to have been part of such an outstanding team and I wish this organization only the finest in future endeavors. Please accept this cake as notification that I am leaving my position with NWT on March 27. Sincerely, W. Neil berrett"
Delicious.
Quit à la American Beauty
I will quit this job today. I will quit this job today.
Quit via Twitter (and Haiku)
Last year, Sun Microsystems CEO Jonathan Schwartz tweeted a haiku of resignation:
Today's my last day at Sun. I'll miss it. Seems only fitting to end on a #haiku. Financial crisis/Stalled too many customers/CEO no more
We're not too sure why/ending on a #haiku was/"fitting," but it's cool.
Quit à la Jerry Maguire
Don't forget to take the fish with you.
Quit ... Like This
We don't know.
