The lawsuit representing 1,150 people targets the Toronto Police Services Board and the attorney general.
Miranda McQuade was arrested on June 26 at a Queen’s Park G20 demonstration, and says she was strip searched and detained for 18 hours before being released. She is one of two demonstrators acting as representative plaintiffs in a class-action suit that includes 1,150 people who say their rights were violated when they were arrested and held at makeshift detention centre in Toronto’s east end during the G20 summit in the city. The lawsuit was filed yesterday at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and seeks $115-million from the Toronto Police Services Board, Federal Attorney General Rob Nicholson, and the Peel Police Services Board.
