Reports suggest a third ship carrying Tamil migrants is on its way.
A new ship bearing Tamil migrants bound for Canada may be preparing to leave port, according to reports from CTV. If true, this would be the third such ship to attempt to enter Canada in less than a year. Last month the MV Sun Sea carried 492 migrants from the Tamil region of Sri Lanka to B.C., and last October the Ocean Lady brought 76 Tamil men to Canadian shores. All passengers claim to be refugees fleeing government reprisals in the wake of a 26-year civil war in the country, but Canadian officials have yet to verify those claims. Federal officials are believed to be preparing to intercept the boat in the Pacific Ocean.
