By giving clear stances on divisive issues, Michael Ignatieff can portray himself as a more competent leader than Stephen Harper.

The Liberal Party is riding the crest of a summer tour that was widely considered a success by political pundits. And recent poll numbers, including Tuesday's Nanos poll, show that the Liberals and Conservative Party are locked in a virtual dead-heat for public support. Earlier this summer, the Grits were polling at their lowest numbers since Stéphane Dion was party leader, and were about 10 points behind the Tories.

Robert Silver, partner at Crestview Public Affairs, spoke with The Mark about how the Liberal Party can maintain their summer momentum, specifically by establishing themselves as more competent public servants than the Conservatives.
