Baby found in trash on board plane to Philippines

Authorities are looking for a woman who gave birth on a Gulf Air flight from Bahrain to Manila and left the baby on board.

On Sunday a security officer at Manila’s airport noticed movement in a garbage bag taken from a recently landed plane, and was shocked to find a live baby inside. Officials believe a Filipino woman gave birth to the child on board the plane and dumped him before getting off. Airport officials collected money to feed and clothe the infant, and have named him George Francis after Gulf Air’s call sign GF. The incident has sparked outrage among Filipinos, but also hints at the hardships facing Filipino migrant workers. One in ten Filipinos works outside of the country, many as domestic workers in the Middle East. The baby will be given to the mothers’ relatives if they can be located, or put up for adoption.
