Jack Layton says he’s convinced enough of his rural MPs to switch their votes and save the long-gun registry.
Meeting with his caucus in Regina yesterday, NDP leader Jack Layton said that he now has enough votes to save the controversial long-gun registry. A vote on the registry is scheduled for next Wednesday, and Layton has been trying to convince rural NDP MPs to support his plan to fix the gun control program. Initially, rural members had been planning to vote with the Conservatives to scrap the registry, which is very unpopular outside of urban areas. Layton said it’s now up to Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff to ensure all of his party members show up and vote to keep to the program.
