Facilities in New Delhi's athletes' village are so bad that some teams are threatening to withdraw.
Less than two weeks before the Commonwealth Games are set to begin in New Delhi, India, there is a prospect they will be canceled. Dave Currie, the head of New Zealand’s team, says his country will withdraw unless living conditions in the athlete’s village drastically improve in the next two days. Officials from Canada, Australia, and England have also expressed serious concern over athletes’ accommodations. The residential part of the village is scheduled to open on Thursday but Currie says there are serious issues with plumbing, hygiene, wiring, and mobile phone access. The Indian government has been struggling to prepare for the games, and has faced delays in construction and security concerns.
