At least two Canadians have decided not to attend the competition in New Delhi because of health and safety concerns.
The future of the Commonwealth Games remains in doubt today as two Canadian archers have announced they’ll be staying home and dozens of other Canadians have delayed their flights to India. Organizers of the competition have faced a raft of problems, which include security threats, prolonged monsoon rains, and an outbreak of dengue fever in the city. Advance officials from competing countries have reported that the athlete’s village is unfinished. Stay dogs were found wandering in suites and feces from overflowing sewers was reported on site. Earlier this week a footbridge to the main stadium collapsed, critically injuring five workers. The games are scheduled to start on October 3.
