The man who sparked a sex scandal in the Manitoba judiciary has withdrawn his suit against judge Lori Douglas.
Alex Chapman was seeking $7-million from Douglas for her role in her husband’s alleged scheme to induce Chapman to sleep with her. Douglas’s husband Jack King was working as Chapman’s attorney when he reportedly showed him pornographic pictures of Douglas on the internet. Revelations of the photos caused Douglas to temporarily stop hearing cases in the Court of Queen’s Bench Family Division this month. The Canadian Judicial Council is now investigating Douglas. Chapman conceded that he does not have enough evidence against Douglas, but he will go ahead with his $60-million suit against King. In 2003 Chapman took $25,000 from King’s law firm to keep quiet and destroy the photos, but says he still feels victimized.
