Expenditure reports tabled yesterday show the government spent $85,000 on snacks and $2.2 million on rental cars.
No one is quite sure how much the G20 and G8 summits held in Toronto and Muskoka cost taxpayers, but it’s believed to be about $1.24 million. According to expenditure reports tabled in Parliament yesterday by Liberal Dan McTeague, those costs included $80 million for accommodation, $300,000 on sunscreen and bug repellent, and $14,000 for glow sticks. The opposition is hammering the Conservatives on the spending, especially because fiscal responsibility is a key plank in the Tory platform. The government says all the expenditures were necessary to protect the security of world leaders in attendance.
