Five members of a U.S. army unit are accused of killing Afghans for sport.
According to testimony given by Specialist Jeremy Morlock at a military court yesterday, he and four other U.S. soldiers murdered three civilians and took photos of themselves posing with the dead. They also kept grisly souvenirs of their atrocities, including a skull and dismembered fingers. Drug use is believed to be rampant in the unit. The case could further damage relations between the U.S. and Afghans, especially if the photos of the alleged crimes are made public. The father of one of the accused said his son told him in February that a murder had been committed. The father tried to alert the U.S. military, but his claims were ignored.
