Travel advisories have been issued across Europe as officials fear co-ordinated attacks.
German officials shut down a mosque in Hamburg this summer after eight people who worshipped there were found to be planning terrorist attacks in major European cities. Mohammed Atta, one of the 9-11 hijackers, attended the same mosque. Details of the plot are still emerging, but it’s believed that Muslim Germans who traveled to Pakistan in 2008 intend to attack “soft targets” such as hotels and train stations in a plan reminiscent of the November 2008 attacks that killed more than 160 people in Mumbai. The U.S., Britain, and Japan have all issued Europe-wide travel advisories, saying the threat is greatest in France and Germany.
