The attack occurred in a region believed to be the origin of the European terror plot that prompted travel advisories this week.
A missile fired by a U.S. drone killed five German militants in the Waziristan region on Monday, according to Pakistani intelligence sources. As reported yesterday, German nationals in Pakistan were believed to be behind a plot to unleash “Mumbai-style” terrorist attacks in major European cities. Travel advisories were issued across Europe over the weekend. German authorities believe that 70 German citizens have received terrorist training in Pakistan, and that about one-third of them have now returned to Europe. The U.S. has stepped up attacks in Pakistan recently, launching 21 drone strikes last month alone. The attacks have been a source of tension between the two countries, particularly after a U.S. helicopter killed three Pakistani soldiers on Sept. 30.
