Ottawa could add stripper, escort jobs to employment program

In a sign that tough economic times are colliding with looser Canadian morals, according to an internal memo from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, several jobs once considered “morally offensive” by most Canadians have become destigmatized and should be included in the federal government’s job bank. These include positions as exotic dancers, nude dancers, phone sex operators, escorts, and table dancers. The memo, dated Oct. 1, seems to be at odds with the government’s professed outrage over a recent court decision that struck down most of Canada’s prostitution laws. Ottawa has announced it will appeal that ruling.
