The Crown cited lack of evidence for its decision to drop the case against 100 people arrested at a U of T gym.
On Sunday, June 27 police raided a University of Toronto gymnasium where activists from outside the city were staying during the G20 summit. They arrested about 90 people and charged them with conspiracy to commit a crime. Some of the activists were arrested simply for having black clothing similar to those worn by the so-called Black Block radical group. The Crown has now been forced to drop those charges because there’s no evidence to support them. More than 1,000 people were arrested in Toronto during the G20 weekend in the largest mass-arrests in Canadian history. Of those, only 300 were ever charged and many of their cases have already been dropped.
