A Pennsylvania woman has been charged with homicide after four corpses believed to be her children were found in her home.
Michele Kalina’s teenage daughter alerted the authorities on July 29 when she discovered three plastic containers in her mother’s closet. They turned out to contain the remains of three newborn babies, and police have linked her to the remains of a fourth child found in the home and a fifth baby discovered in a landfill. The cause of the infants’ deaths was determined to be consistent with asphyxia, poison, or neglect. Some of the remains were at least 14 years old. Kalina, who worked as a nurse’s aide, has been in custody since August and was charged yesterday with criminal homicide and four counts of abuse of a corpse.
