Khadr could get parole in four years

If the convicted terrorist returns to Canada he will have a much better chance for parole than in the U.S.
Khadr pleaded guilty to five terrorism charges at Guantanamo Bay yesterday and part of his plea deal virtually guaranteed he would be sent to Canada after serving less than one year in the U.S. Under Canadian law, prisoners have the right to apply for parole after serving one-third to one-half of their sentence. Four years into his eight-year sentence he would be eligible for parole, and unless it could be proven that he is a threat to society, he would likely be granted it, experts say. The fact that he has already been in U.S. custody for eight years and was 15 when captured in Afghanistan would likely play a favourable role for him at any parole hearing.
