LimeWire shut down over copyright infringement

The company says it’s not permanently out of business despite a court injunction forbidding it from distributing its file-sharing software.
A New York judge has found that LimeWire is used overwhelmingly to download copyrighted material and that the company intentionally encouraged infringement. The ruling marks the conclusion of a four-year legal case brought against the software company by the entertainment industry’s biggest players, including Sony, Time Warner, Virgin, and Capitol Records. The LimeWire site became inactive on Wednesday, displaying only a notice that the company is under a court-ordered injunction. A statement from LimeWire’s CEO said the company is working on developing a completely new music service. The Gnutella and BitTorrent networks LimeWire tapped into are still active.
