Giants pound Rangers in World Series opener

The Texas Rangers’ first trip to the championship got off to a rocky start with an 11-7 loss.

It was supposed to be a battle between two of baseball’s best pitchers, but turned into a slugfest that saw San Francisco Giants hitters chase Cliff Lee from the mound in the fifth inning. Unbeatable in the post-season until last night, he gave up seven runs and eight hits and lasted barely half the game. The Rangers, playing in their first ever World Series, got off to a 2-0 lead but the Giants exploded with six runs in the fifth inning to make it 8-2. The Giants never looked back, and the Rangers defence making four errors didn’t help matters. Fortunately for them they won’t have much time to reflect on their mistakes.
