Giants pound Rangers in World Series opener

The Texas Rangers’ first trip to the championship got off to a rocky start with an 11-7 loss.
It was supposed to be a battle between two of baseball’s best pitchers, but turned into a slugfest that saw San Francisco Giants hitters chase Cliff Lee from the mound in the fifth inning. Unbeatable in the post-season until last night, he gave up seven runs and eight hits and lasted barely half the game. The Rangers, playing in their first ever World Series, got off to a 2-0 lead but the Giants exploded with six runs in the fifth inning to make it 8-2. The Giants never looked back, and the Rangers defence making four errors didn’t help matters. Fortunately for them they won’t have much time to reflect on their mistakes. The series resumes tonight in San Francisco
