Howard K. Stern and Khristine Eroshevich were found guilty of conspiracy.
Stern had been the former Playboy Playmate’s lover, manager, and lawyer since 2001. He was found guilty of conspiracy for his role in fueling her addiction to painkillers by using false prescriptions to obtain large amounts of drugs. Eroshevich, Smith’s psychiatrist, was also found guilty of conspiracy. Neither was charged in connection to Smith’s death by accidental overdose in 2007, although a pharmacist testified that the amount of drugs Eroshevich once requested for Smith was the equivalent of pharmaceutical suicide. The pair gave her 1500 pills during a single month. A third defendant, Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, was acquitted. Prosecutors said that Eroshevich and Stern fed Smith’s addiction so that they could remain inside the celebrity’s inner circle of friends.
