Barack Obama has announced that packages on planes in Dubai and the U.K. were “a credible threat.”
U.S. officials are probing a terrorist plot believed to have originated in Yemen after a modified printer cartridge containing explosive material and a circuit board was found aboard a plane in the U.K. A similar device was found on a plane in Dubai, and U.S. authorities have increased security at airports as they search for 13 other packages that they say may or may not pose a threat. It is unclear if the incident was a thwarted attack or if it was a dry run designed to test airline security. Obama was alerted to the danger Thursday night and announced today the packages were bound for “places of Jewish worship in Chicago.” The Anshe Emet Synagogue in Chicago was told by police to look out for suspicious packages arriving in the mail.
