Masked assailants broke into Jason Devine’s house and beat him with baseball bats and hammers.
Devine is the public face of an anti-racism movement that has emerged in Calgary in response to neo-Nazi groups that have flourished during Alberta’s economic boom. He and his wife Bonnie run a website that identifies local white supremacists by name, and he has been the target of intimidation in the past. Police previously arrested a man for throwing a Molotov cocktail at Devine’s house, but he was acquitted. Early Monday morning five masked men broke into Devine's home and attacked him and another man who was staying there. The houseguest’s arm was broken but Devine escaped with only bruises. His wife and four children aged five through 12 were unharmed.
