Classified Documents Stolen from Bank of Canada Governor

A thief broke into Mark Carney’s car while it was left unattended in downtown Montreal and stole a bag full of documents.
The incident occurred on Nov. 1 and police have since recovered the stolen bag. Authorities are trying to determine if any documents are missing, but would not say if an arrest has been made. The Bank of Canada, which is in charge of the country’s monetary policy, strictly controls all information related to its operations in order to avoid influencing investors’ behaviour. Carney, perhaps not surprisingly, is blaming his chauffeur for the break in. Apparently the driver was not near the car at the time, and Carney was in a meeting. Under the Security of Information Act, charges can be laid against civil servants who fail to guard government information, but the act is rarely used.
