Canadian Forces officials searched the convicted serial killer’s cottage and retrieved material related to his military service.
Russell Williams became the first officer in the history of the Canadian Forces to be stripped of his rank and thrown out of the military after pleading guilty to 82 break-ins, two sexual assaults, and the murder of Jessica Lloyd and Marie-France Comeau. On Tuesday officials went to his cottage in Tweed and emerged with books, equipment, and Williams’s military kit, which they burned hours later. Usually the military attempts to recycle clothing but felt it more appropriate to destroy Williams’s uniforms, boots, headdress and shirts to ensure that they were not reused. All the items had his name on them. Williams is currently serving a life sentence in Kingston penitentiary.
