William and Kate Set Wedding Date

Circle your calendar and stock up on tissues. April 29 is the big day.

Rumours had been flying ever since the Prince and his princess-to-be announced their engagement last week, but Prince William and Kate Middleton ended speculation yesterday by announcing that they will be married on Friday, April 29, at Westminster Abbey in London. The church has been the coronation site for English monarchs since 1066, and Queen Elizabeth II was married there in 1947 while still a princess. It was also the site of Princess Diana’s funeral. Westminster Abbey had been the odds-on favourite venue for the ceremony, as most observers thought the pair would try to minimize comparisons to William’s parents’ lavish wedding, which was held at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
