Thieves broke into Line Burns’s car on Monday while it was parked outside the cathedral where the NHL coach was laid to rest.
Hours after a who’s who of hockey stars paid tribute to Pat Burns at the Mary Queen of the World Cathedral in downtown Montreal on Monday, someone smashed their way into his grieving widow’s car and stole several items, including 30 autographed hockey jerseys. The sweaters were to be auctioned off to raise money for an arena in Stanstead, QC that was recently named after Burns. The thieves also took items from the late coach’s wallet, his watch, Burns family photos, jewelry, and clothes. The car was left outside the cathedral overnight, and Line Burns discovered the theft Tuesday morning. Burns had an award-studded career as the coach of four NHL clubs, and died of cancer on Nov. 19.
