Danny Williams Says Goodbye

  • First Posted: Dec 03 2010 09:36 AM

The popular premier leaves office today, making Kathy Dunderdale the first woman to lead Newfoundland and Labrador.

Despite hilarious protestations from his biggest fans, Danny Williams is leaving office today as the country’s most popular premier. While polls show his approval rating is down from a massive 80 per cent last February, the likes of Jean Charest would kill for the 67 per cent support Williams is stepping down with. There has been some speculation that Williams will make a move to federal politics, but so far he’s remained tight-lipped on his intentions. During his seven years as premier, Williams’s fiery defence of his province’s interests made him beloved to voters, but critics say he threatened national unity. Deputy Premier Kathy Dunderdale will be sworn in as premier later today.
