The head of the whistleblowing website is has been denied bail and will remain behind bars while he fights extradition to Sweden for sex crimes charges.
Possibly the most famous wanted man this side of the Kurram Valley, Julian Assange has surrendered to London police. A Europe-wide warrant had been issued for the WikiLeaks founder in connection with accusations made by two women in Sweden that he committed rape and sexual coercion against them. Assange maintains that the charges are being politically manipulated, but his lawyer has admitted there was a dispute with at least one of the women regarding consensual but unprotected sex. Assange has decided to fight his extradition to Sweden, and has been remanded without bail. The WikiLeaks site and Twitter page have been virtually silent since Monday.
