The head of the Toronto Police Service says he’s taking allegations of police misconduct very seriously.
Blair has faced criticism not only for police actions during the G20 summit in June but for comments he made afterward, in which he suggested a man captured on Youtube being beaten by officers might have deserved it. But he’s doing his best to show the public that he will track down officers who abused their power, and told reporters yesterday he will not step down as chief of police. He said that investigators are using all available evidence, including images compiled by the Toronto Star, to identify police who committed abuses. Although officers have apparently been reluctant to identify their colleagues in the incriminating images, Blair said it’s a standing order for police to report misconduct in their ranks.
