Ignatieff Needs to Go, Suggests Poll

Only 38 per cent of Canadians who voted Liberal in the last election think Michael Ignatieff should remain in his job.

Bob Rae’s ears are burning. A new poll conducted for the Toronto Star suggests Liberal supporters want to see a new leader at the head of the party before the next election. The poll found that 46 per cent of Liberal voters think Ignatieff should be replaced, and appears to indicate that his summer cross-country tour did little to improve his tepid reception among the Canadian electorate. According to the poll his approval rating is an abysmal 14 per cent, compared to Stephen Harper’s 26 per cent and Jack Layton’s 25 per cent. Ignatieff dismissed those statistics, arguing that pollsters also incorrectly predicted a landslide Conservative victory in the Vaughan by-election last week, which ended up being very close.
