Britain’s home secretary has confirmed that demonstrators who ambushed the royal limousine Thursday made physical contact with Prince Charles’s wife.
Home Secretary Theresa May is taking a lot of heat for the apparent lack of security surrounding the royal couple, who were attacked by a group of protestors Thursday night in London amidst violent demonstrations against soaring tuition fees. May said that protestors made contact with Camilla Parker-Bowles, but refused to confirm media reports that she was “poked with a stick.” Video of the incident, which shows the couple looking terrified inside their Rolls Royce, are the most dramatic images of the civil unrest that has gripped Britain since London announced massive government cuts to tackle the country’s debt. Under the new austerity measures, average university tuition fees will rise from £3,000 to £9,000, making secondary education unaffordable for many.
