Insert suspenders joke here.
Twenty-five years and 50,000 interviews later, the host of CNN’s Larry King Live is calling it a day. His final show will air tonight, but who his last guest will be remains a secret. King has been a TV staple since 1985 when CNN was still struggling to get off the ground, and from the start he stood apart from the crowd precisely because, oddly enough, he was so bland. His softball questions to guests rarely elicited insightful responses but also made his show a haven for public figures embroiled in scandal. King’s show was often the first stop for embattled celebrities. Every American president from Richard Nixon to Barack Obama sat across the desk from King at some point.
