Constable Babak Andalib-Goortani has been charged with assault with a weapon in connection with the arrest of Adam Nobody.
It took six months and a lot of public pressure, but a police officer has finally been charged with using excessive force at the G20. The Special Investigations Unit concluded an investigation a month ago without laying charges, finding that police had likely used excessive force but there was no way to identify the offending officers, despite ubiquitous surveillance at the summit. A citizen then came forward with a video showing a police officer beating a protestor named Adam Nobody, which Chief Bill Blair initially dismissed as tampered evidence but has now apparently led to the arrest of Const. Babak Goortani. He is due in court on Jan. 24 to face assault charges but was reportedly still at work Tuesday.
