More than 84,200 immigrants arrived in Canada in the third quarter of 2010.

According to a report by Statistics Canada, our country remains as welcoming as ever. Between July and the start of October, Canada’s population increased by 129,300 to 34,238,000, with 65 per cent of that growth being accounted for by new Canadians. For some provinces, it was the highest rate of immigration since 1971. Prince Edward Island recorded the biggest increase, with its population rising 0.7 per cent thanks to 12,000 new immigrants. Quebec too had historically high rates with 16,800 immigrants arriving in the third quarter of this year. In Newfoundland and Labrador the trend of emigration continued, with about 500 residents leaving the province.
