Parliamentary newbie Julian Fantino was also promoted to minister of state for seniors in a mini cabinet shuffle today.
If there is a federal election this spring, the final cuts have been made to Team Harper and the Conservatives are ready to compete. The prime minister announced a minor cabinet shuffle today aimed at shoring up his party’s strength in a few positions, especially at the environment ministry, which has been without a permanent minister since Jim Prentice stepped down in November to take a job at CIBC. Peter Kent, the former broadcaster and current MP for Thornhill, takes over that job, while former Ontario Provincial Police commissioner and 68-year-old rookie MP Julian Fantino was given the lesser post of minister of state for seniors.
