Canadian Juniors Lose to Russia After Massive Third Period Implosion

The junior hockey team’s arch rivals scored five goals in the final frame to win 5-3 and take home the gold at the World Junior Hockey Championship.
This one’s going to sting for a while. The Canadian juniors were 20 minutes away from glory, heading into the third period of the gold medal game with a solid 3-0 lead. But despite being outplayed for most of the game, Russia stormed back with five unanswered goals in the third to stun the overwhelmingly pro-Canadian crowd at Buffalo’s HSBC arena and complete the biggest comeback in the history of the tournament. If it’s any consolation, in a few years these Canadian youngsters will be making millions of dollars in the NHL, but it will take a long time to live down this defeat. After the game Canadian defenceman Tyler Barrie said, “This is the worst feeling I’ve ever had.”
