Passengers Foil Attempted Hijacking

Civilians overpowered a Turkish man who tried to enter the cockpit of a flight from Oslo to Istanbul.

The would-be hijacker, identified as a Turk named Cuma Yasar, got up from his seat 30 minutes before the flight landed and demanded that the plane turn back to Norway. He claimed he had a bomb, but police later determined it was a fake. Other passengers managed to tackle him to the floor as he headed towards the cockpit, and when police entered the Turkish Airlines plane after it had landed safely at Istanbul’s Attaturk Airport they found a passenger sitting on top of Yasar to restrain him. It’s unclear what Yasar’s motive was, but it does not appear that he was connected with any international terrorist group.
