Rizzuto Funeral Home Firebombed as Montreal Mafia Wars Continue

A Montreal funeral parlour owned by the Rizzuto crime family became the latest target of arsonists Thursday morning.

Firebombs and Molotov cocktails have become the weapons of choice for Montreal organized crime syndicates vying for control of the city’s underworld, and 19 bars and cafés have been torched in the city since last August. Police believe at least some of the bars were drug distribution points. Early Thursday morning, rivals of the Rizzuto family apparently upped the ante, firebombing the funeral parlour that was the site of the visitation for Nicolo Rizzuto last fall. Rizzuto, known as the family’s godfather, was assassinated in his home in November. Police apprehended three men who were seen fleeing the scene of the arson and found what they believe are remnants of a Molotov cocktail inside the front hall of the funeral home.
