Loughner Trial to Be Relocated to California, Say Reports

Federal sources say the case is too sensitive and will attract too much attention if held in Tucson.
There has been no official announcement of plans to move the trial as yet, but federal law enforcement sources say it’s all but a done deal that it will be relocated to San Diego. One of the victims of the Jan. 8 shooting spree that left six people dead and Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords fighting for her life was Arizona’s highest-ranking federal judge, and last week a court ruled all of the district’s judges had to recuse themselves from the case. Aside from the issue of guaranteeing suspect Jared Lee Loughner a fair trial, the media circus surrounding the proceedings would likely further traumatize the still-reeling community. Giffords continues her surprising recovery, and was updated from critical to serious condition Sunday.
