The FBI says the device was planted as an act of domestic terrorism.
A parade honouring Martin Luther King, Jr. in Spokane, WA had to be rerouted yesterday after a backpack containing a potentially lethal bomb was discovered on a roadside bench. The device was placed to direct a blast towards marchers, and the FBI said it contained shrapnel capable of inflicting multiple casualties. The FBI defused the bomb using a robot and the parade went ahead without incident, although it was slightly delayed. Authorities are investigating whether there is any connection between the bomb and another explosive that was found outside a Spokane courthouse last March. No arrests were ever made after that incident.
