The Arizona congresswoman who was shot in the head on Jan. 8 continues her remarkable recovery.

For a time on Jan. 8, the media reported that Giffords was dead. But 11 days later, despite suffering a bullet wound to her brain and having parts of her skull removed during surgery, she was able to stand with some assistance Wednesday to the delight of Americans closely following recovery. She will soon be moved to a military rehab facility in Houston that specializes in bullet wounds. Giffords was the target of a shooting spree at a Tucson Safeway that left six people dead. The accused in the case, 22-year-old Jared Lee Loughner, was charged with three counts of attempted murder Wednesday, and will likely face a slew of other state and federal charges in coming weeks.
