NDP Ready For “Aggressive,” Record-Setting Campaign, Says Memo

An internal email says the party is firming up plans for a mid-February campaign.

It’s good times over at the NDP. An internal memo from campaign director Brad Lavigne to Jack Layton says the party is ready for an election, and has more money to spend on a campaign than ever before. The memo confirms that the NDP’s election preparations are in high gear: planes and buses to whisk Layton across the country have been reserved, campaign headquarters renovated, television ads filmed, and a platform finalized. The optimistic memo also predicts the party will hold all of its current 36 seats and pick up several more from the Conservatives. It’s the latest sign that Canadians will be going to the polls soon, with a federal budget scheduled for March expected to trigger a vote.
