Toronto Police Officers Convicted of Assault

Edward Ing and John Cruz were found guilty of beating a man on the steps of his home in 2009.
It is extremely rare for Toronto police officers to be convicted of assault, but in the case of Richard Moore it seems the court had little choice. Moore was walking home in April 2009 when he directed abusive remarks at Ing and Cruz, who proceeded to chase him and beat him so badly he suffered fractured ribs and a gash in his head. The officers said they detained him because he was drunk, but doctors who treated him said he had no alcohol in his system. No date for sentencing has been set. The verdict came a day after the assault trial began for Babak Andalib-Goortani, the only officer to be charged with offences related to the G20 summit last June.
