Gay rights groups are furious after a grocery store in Arkansas placed a protective shield over an Us Weekly cover showing Elton and his male partner with their baby.
Cover your eyes, children! Gay rights groups are calling for a boycott of Harps grocery store after its outlet in Mountain Home, AK placed a “family shield” over the latest issue of Us Weekly after receiving complaints from customers. The shields are usually used to cover up pornographic magazines and bear the words “To protect young Harps shoppers.” The cover of the magazine shows Elton and his partner David Furnish smiling and holding their young son, Zachary Jackson Levi Furnish John, who was born Christmas day to a surrogate mother. After a photo of the shielded magazine was posted on the internet it sparked a firestorm of criticism, and a Harps spokesperson said the shield has been removed.
