Sources indicate that David Swann will announce his resignation at a press conference Tuesday.
Seeing as the Conservatives have won every provincial election in the last forty years, being an Alberta Liberal is thankless work. Leading the party is apparently a job Swann no longer wants, and it’s expected he will announce his resignation just three years into his tenure as leader. While widely regarded as a decent person, many within his own party questioned Swann’s ability to fight dirty, a necessary quality in politics. Despite an internal crisis in the Conservative party and the new Wildrose Alliance splitting the vote on the right, the Liberals have failed to make gains in the polls. Swann is set to become the latest high-profile Alberta leader to step down. Premier Ed Stelmach resigned last week.
