The world waits to see if Egyptians will march on the palace of President Hosni Mubarak.
Some were calling it Egypt’s “million man march,” but reports indicate that close to two million people have thronged to Cairo’s Tahrir Square to demand President Hosni Mubarak end his 30-year dictatorship. The army, a key arbiter in the clash between government and its people, continues to tell protesters that soldiers will not intervene in demonstrations as long as they are peaceful. The question now is what will happen if Mubarak continues to dismiss demands that he step down. The longer he refuses to respond, the more likely that the protesters will carry out plans to march on his presidential palace, setting up a potentially deadly confrontation with security forces. Barriers of barbed wire have been placed around Mubarak’s home.
