Tories Pull Another Campaign-Style Ad

Critics had charged that the commercial violated regulations against using the prime minister’s office for political purposes.

Out of the eight ads recently released by the Conservatives, the only one that didn’t attack the opposition has now been pulled. While the other campaign-style ads the Tories released two weeks ago targeted Michael Ignatieff’s image, one spot showed Stephen Harper working late in his office and trumpeted the government’s record of handling the economy. Because it was filmed in the prime minister’s office, some had suggested it violated Parliament’s complex regulations governing the use of government property for partisan purposes. A Conservative spokesman wouldn’t comment on why the ad was pulled, but said rotating commercials during an ad campaign was routine. The Tories pulled two of their now infamous “Yes! Yes! Yes!” anti-Ignatieff ads last week.
