Doku Umarov posted a video online saying the deadly attack was carried out on his orders.

The suicide bomb attack at Domodedovo airport on Jan. 24 killed 36 people and injured 180 more. In a video posted online and dated the day of the attack, Umarov said “I’m showing the Putin regime one more time that we can carry out these operations wherever and whenever we want” and vowed to carry out more suicide bombings in the future. Umarov served as the security minister for the separatist Chechen government in the late 1990s, and is one of the most wanted men in Russia. He also claimed responsibility for the deadly Moscow subway bombings in March 2010. Russia and Chechen nationalists have engaged in sporadic, brutal fighting since 1994 that has left more than 50,000 Chechens dead.
