The former media mogul is asking to country’s top court to overturn his conviction on fraud and obstruction of justice charges.
It’s high noon for Baron Black of Crossharbour, as the ex-National Post owner and current British nobleman is appealing to the highest court in the land to finally exonerate him. Black, who famously renounced his Canadian citizenship to become a British lord in 2001, was convicted in 2007 of three counts of fraud and one count of obstruction of justice. He spent two years in a Florida prison before two of the fraud charges were overturned, and has twice appealed unsuccessfully in Chicago courts to have his remaining convictions quashed. On Thursday his lawyers filed an appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court to throw out the convictions. Black has been free on bail since July 2010.
